Filipinos for Obama Movement, ‘Obamanos’ weblog launch – 20 February

Filipinos for Obama Movement,

‘Obamanos’ weblog set launch

MANILA – Back in 1952, nine years before Barack Obama was born, a group of Democrat Americans became crucial in catapulting the Second World War five-star general Dwight David Eisenhower, a registered Republican, to become the 34th President of the United States.

More than half a century later, this extraordinary favor is returned to the present-day descendants of the old movement tagged as the Democrats for Eisenhower, as Uncle Ike’s own granddaughter is now in the forefront of another movement called the Republicans for Obama – better known as the “Obamacans.”

Susan Eisenhower, a prominent figure in the circle of “Obamacans,” has endorsed the senator from Illinois to be the 44th American President – the first African-American U.S. President.

Also this 2008, the Land of Lincolner’s camp is adding another group of aces in its sleeves after the “Obamacans” and the so-called “Obamacons,” the Conservatives for Obama.

The “Obamanos,” a group composed of the Filipinos for Obama Movement and its affiliate Pilipino Bloggers for Barack based in the Philippines, is set to launch their weblog on February 21 as they beef up their broad membership in America and the rest of the world.

“The time for change has come, a change we can believe in,” the Obamanos weblog, in paraphrasing a classic Obama punchline declares in its opening page, accessible through the

Echoing the Democratic 2008 frontrunner, the blog encourages and inspires Filipinos here and abroad to a more positive thinking and outlook in life, and to believe more in themselves by standing up to shout and declare: “Yes, We Can!”

Inspiring hope and optimism, the Obamanos weblog stresses that “Change begins 2009 and goes beyond 2017,” referring to the final year that Obama might serve in a likely two-term, eight-year presidency.

“We are Obamanos, we are Filipinos for Obama, we are the Filipinos for Change Movement,” the blog declares.  “We are the Silent Intellectual Majority, we are the Pinoy Bloggers for Barack.”

It added: “We’re one with America and the world for change.  We believe in this change within ourselves.”

And in a classic Obama parting shot, the weblog thunders with an optimist’s decisive and final stand: “We are fired up and ready to go!”

Like hope, change springs eternal in the human breast.
